Senior Product Engineer, Full-Stack

Job Description

JOSA, a Jordanian organization dedicated to promoting and developing open-source technology for social good, is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Senior Product Engineer to join its newly established product team and take a leading technical role in building and shipping JOSA's open-source digital products, platforms, and tools.

The Senior Product Engineer will work alongside product managers and fellow product engineers within the product team, while collaborating closely with the program team and tech team. This role requires someone who can own the end-to-end technical delivery of product features, contribute to architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, and bring strong opinions on code quality, performance, and security, all within an open-source, collaborative environment. 
 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong alignment with JOSA's mission and values.
• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Minimum 4-5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production-quality products or features.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js) and experience with frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue).
• Solid experience with cloud-native development, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects is highly valued.
• Strong communication skills in Arabic and English, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams. 
   

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Development and Engineering

• Design, build, test, and ship features across JOSA's open-source digital products, from AI-powered platforms to cybersecurity tools and community initiatives.
• Own the end-to-end technical delivery of product increments; from technical design and implementation through code review, testing, and deployment.
• Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that meets JOSA's quality standards and open-source best practices.
• Develop and maintain APIs, data pipelines, and integrations that power JOSA's products and connect them with external tools and services.

Architecture and Technical Leadership

• Contribute to and drive architectural decisions, technology choices, and technical standards for JOSA's product portfolio.
• Proactively identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide constructive, thorough code reviews to elevate the team's engineering quality.
• Mentor and support other engineers within the product team, fostering a culture of learning, ownership, and craftsmanship.

Collaboration and Product Thinking

• Work closely with the Product Manager to translate user stories and product specifications into well-scoped technical tasks and implementation plans.
• Participate actively in sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives, contributing both technical perspective and product awareness.
• Collaborate with the program team to understand beneficiary needs and ensure products are fit for purpose in real-world civil society contexts.
• Coordinate with the tech team on infrastructure, DevOps, and deployment needs to ensure smooth and reliable product delivery.
• Coordinate with the digital security team on secure coding practices and privacy-by-design principles across all products.

Open Source and Community

• Develop and maintain JOSA's open-source products with transparency, clear documentation, and contributor-friendly practices.
• Support open-source community engagement by reviewing external contributions, writing technical documentation, and participating in community discussions.
• Stay current with relevant open-source tools, libraries, and frameworks, and advocate for their adoption where appropriate.
