The Jordan Open Source Association (JOSA) is hosting two talented youth for a six-month fellowship, April – October 2025, aimed at advancing the research and development of high-quality security content. Throughout the fellowship, participants will enhance their skills in conducting in-depth research on cybersecurity trends, developing technical content, and creating resources to educate internal and external stakeholders. Details about the Fellowship
Duration: Six months
Start date: April 6, 2025
End date: October 5, 2025
Monthly Stipend: 350 JOD
Full-time fellowship with the flexibility to work remotely a couple of days per week, allowing for a balanced and adaptable work environment.
Mentors and Supervision: Selected fellows will work under the direct supervision of an assigned mentor from JOSA's Digital Security team, ensuring personalized guidance and support throughout the fellowship.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Fellows will actively participate in monitoring and evaluation activities to track progress and ensure continuous growth. These activities include submitting Monthly Knowledge and Achievement Reports, engaging in one-on-one follow-up meetings, completing a Fellowship Completion Self-Improvement Report, and providing feedback through Satisfaction Surveys, among others.
Role Overview
The Security Officer (Technical Researcher) will be responsible for researching, developing, editing, and publishing high-quality security content to support the JOSA’s mission. This individual will create technical resources that educate, inform, and guide both internal stakeholders and external partners on security best practices, threat intelligence, compliance requirements, and security protocols.
This is a highly technical role that requires an in-depth understanding of security principles, tools, and practices, paired with excellent writing, editing, and content development skills. The role will be central to ensuring that the organization’s security policies, incident reports, training materials, and other technical documents are well-researched, clear, and aligned with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Content Research and Development:
- Conduct in-depth research on emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends.
- Develop and write technical articles, whitepapers, case studies, and reports on a variety of cybersecurity topics, such as incident response, threat analysis, vulnerability management, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with security analysts and other technical team members to ensure the accuracy of technical content.
- Develop internal documentation, such as security protocols, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring they are clear, concise, and actionable.
2. Content Editing and Refinement:
- Edit and review technical documentation to ensure clarity, coherence, and correctness while maintaining technical accuracy.
- Standardize content structure, style, and format across all documentation to ensure consistency.
- Simplify complex technical information for non-technical stakeholders without losing key security concepts or details.
- Proofread documents for spelling, grammar, formatting, and technical correctness
3. Publishing and Communication:
- Publish security content on internal platforms (e.g., intranet, wiki) for easy access by internal teams.
- Ensure content is available and easily navigable to different teams within the organization, including IT, HR, legal, and operations.
- Create and distribute security-related newsletters, bulletins, or alerts based on current threat landscapes and organizational priorities.
- Assist in preparing presentations for senior management and external stakeholders, focusing on security posture and compliance updates.
4. Security Awareness and Training Materials:
- Collaborate with the Security Awareness team to develop training materials on security best practices, threat detection, and incident response for employees.
- Develop and maintain onboarding documents for new security tools, systems, and policies, ensuring they are user-friendly and understandable.
- Create engaging and informative content to raise awareness about phishing, password security, secure communications, and other critical security topics.
5. Compliance and Regulatory Documentation:
- Work with the compliance team to ensure all security documentation aligns with industry regulations and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, NIST, ISO/IEC 27001).
- Assist in preparing documentation for security audits, ensuring it is complete, accurate, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain risk assessment reports and documentation to help the organization manage and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
6. Continuous Improvement and Feedback:
- Gather feedback from internal stakeholders on documentation effectiveness and areas for improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies to ensure content is relevant and based on current best practices.
- Proactively identify gaps in existing security documentation and work to fill those gaps through new content or updates.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 2-4 years of experience in a technical writing, content development, or cybersecurity role (experience in an NGO or non-profit environment is a plus).
- Experience writing technical documentation, manuals, and guides focused on cybersecurity topics.
Technical Skills
- In-depth understanding of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and technologies (e.g., SIEM, encryption, firewalls, threat intelligence, vulnerability management).
- Strong knowledge of security compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR).
- Familiarity with various security tools and technologies, such as firewalls, anti-malware, SIEM, endpoint security, and incident response tools.
- Proficiency in technical writing and the ability to convert complex security topics into clear, accessible language for varied audiences.
- Familiarity with documentation tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, or other content management systems.
Writing and Editing Skills
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong focus on technical accuracy and clarity.
- Ability to maintain consistency in style, tone, and formatting across different documents. Experience creating content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with tight deadlines.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across different teams (security, compliance, IT, HR, etc.).
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on meeting deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing tasks autonomously while being adaptable to evolving requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
- To participate in this fellowship and be eligible to receive the above support, you must meet most of the following criteria.
- Fellows should be based in Jordan.
- Have demonstrated interest in implementing at least one newly gained skill from the SOC Analyst Fellowship to provide direct support to organizations.
- Commitment to complete the full duration of the fellowship.
