The government believes that this policy will play a fundamental role in the process of digital transformation and the merging and integration of future technologies, and will provide the pillar for transitioning towards the technologies brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, quantum computing and other modern technologies.
It is evident from the policy's content that the government's awareness of the roles and benefits of open-source programs is increasing. The policy stipulates the necessity of “studying the possibility of developing local cloud network programs and relying on open-source software and developing them”. It also seeks to guide students to create projects that serve the government's private cloud and contribute to building its infrastructure by relying on open-source software.
The Jordan Open Source Association appreciates the government's consideration of its call for creating a clear link between the policy of classification and management of government data on the one hand and the policy of cloud platforms and their services on the other. It’s become easy for government agencies to determine the appropriate type of cloud (private, local, or global), depending on the nature of the data processed through it. The Jordan Open Source Association believes that this will be positively reflected through the provision of more open data –and within the framework of contemporary technical solutions– by various government agencies.
The Jordan Open Source Association hopes that this policy will be reflected on the Jordanian government’s technological infrastructure as a whole, and will trigger the beginning of utilizing open-source software as the best option for various government software solutions.
